Maiden Pink is a perennial plant of the carnation family, which reaches a height of 10-40 cm. It forms a thin creeping and branched root in the soil. Two types of above-ground shoots are formed from the rhizome - one is the one on which flowers are formed, they are sparsely leafy and the other is densely leafy, but flowers are not formed on them.

The pages are arranged oppositely. They are 1-3cm in length, 1-3mm on flower shoots. On non-flowering shoots, the leaves are also wider - up to 5 mm and more rounded.

The flower consists of five petals, the tips of the petals are toothed. There are dark red dots on the petals, which form a ring through all the petals. Flowers, usually, different shades of red, sometimes pinkish-purple. On the tops of the stems, one or more flowers together. The plant blooms from mid-June until autumn. The plant starts flowering at +15C and blooms for an average of 45 days.

The fruit is a dry seed pod. The seeds are small and numerous. When ripe, the box opens at the top and the seeds are sown. The plant likes sandy soil and well-lit places.

For medicinal purposes, the above-ground part of the plant is collected during flowering. Dry on sieves in a shaded and well-ventilated room. Stored for no longer than 2 years, in dense fabric bags or glass containers.

Saponins, coumarins, flavonoids, glycosides, ascorbic acid, carotene and alkaloid derivatives were found in the plant. No poisonous compounds have been found in this plant.

Medicinal significance

Maiden Pink has anti-hemorrhagic, analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, diaphoretic, antispasmodic, anti-bacterial, expectorant, sedative, anti-toxic, diuretic and astringent properties.

It is often used in cases of uterine bleeding and hemorrhoidal bleeding. Maiden Pink preparations are known to increase the tone of the smooth muscles of the uterus without causing side effects. The plant is not toxic.

Externally, poultices and applications from this plant are also used in case of rheumatism and allergic reactions. Basically, Maiden Pink are used only in folk medicine. The main medicinal property of the Maiden Pink is its ability to stop bleeding. Not recommended for use

Maiden Pink is strictly prohibited during pregnancy and lactation and if a person suffers from amenorrhea. The plant can raise the tone of the uterus and provoke an abortion. Recipes
